Hornby O-Gauge Model Railway

The following 20 lots are part of an original working layout, which was started in the 1930s and added to until the 1940s (just a couple of later additions have crept in too). The set has been added to many times over the years and appears to have been played with under supervision, minimising any damage to locos and rolling stock from the inevitable railway disasters that happen when being played with by children. The items appear to have been replaced in their boxes when not in use and in some cases the only damage seems to come from the fact that it was in an attic for years, where the damp atmosphere has given some of the axles a light rusting (this should remove well with care). Also there are a few of the wheels which suffer slightly from ‘Metal Fatigue’ (caused by impurities in the zinc alloy used by Hornby at that time), the worst effects of this can be seen in a couple of the photos on the Facebook page, which form part of the descriptions of the lots. All I can add, is that these are some of the best condition pre-war items that I have seen - and to find the boxes with them just adds to the scarcity. The items in this section haven’t been tested, and all electric equipment is sold ‘as-seen’ and ‘w.a.f.’, and as collectables only.
63“, 4-4-0 Locomotive (E420) ‘Eton’ ‘Southern 900’ electric (20v). Lovely condition, just a couple of light scratches/dings, front wheel with slight metal fatigue; the box water-stained, but complete. Tender with slight ‘crackling’ to wheels & one (repairable) slightly buckled corner; box slight water marks. Two con rods removed (for smoother running?) but included loose. All in all, a beautiful item590
64“, 4-4-2T electric Loco ‘LNER 1784’ (green, with green wheels - rear axle one wheel replaced, one with slight metal fatigue - one driving wheel affected slightly worse - see photo on Facebook), otherwise a very fine item with only minor chips/dings. Missing bulb. In box with ‘Electric’, ‘NE’, ‘2581’ & ‘Meccano & Hornby Service Department’ labels.150
65“, 4-4-3T clockwork loco ‘LNER 1784’ (green, with green wheels - missing rear bogie, replacement rear axle). V.G.-fine condition, just the usual scratches & dings, and the other reminders of the ‘odd railway accident’ that it survived. Nice, smooth running motor. (1)55
66“, Two carriages: No2 LNER 1st/3rd, teak, light wear, possibly repainted roofs; one box poor/good, the other better. (2)42
67“, Two carriages: LNER 4204 Brake composite, some scratches, etc. repainted roof, box fine; SR Passenger Brake Coach, scratches (light rusting) a little paint added (to obscure ‘Southern’, etc.), unboxed. Still attractive lot. (2)38

Model Aircraft and Model Ship Kits

The following 15 lots are from a collector of models who bought the kits, opened them to check the contents, and tucked them away to build ‘one day’. You now have the chance to finish the job; many of the larger ships cost in the region of £100 each, some above this (one still has the price tag of £159.99!) several years ago. They all appear (and are believed to be) complete, but are being sold ‘w.a.f.’ (some with scuffed boxes, etc.) and ‘as seen’. Owing to their weight and size, these lots won’t be taken to the auction venue, but can be collected from the shop. Unsuitable for posting. Photos on Facebook page.
